Location. The Grand Hotel and La Pace is located in Montecatini Terme, Italy, within 300 metres of the Montecatini spa and eight kilometres from the city centre. Montecatini Terme railway station is located 200 metres away.

Hotel Features. Built in the 19th century and featuring Tuscan Art Deco architecture, Grand Hotel and La Pace is set on a 20,000 square metre park in a private estate. This resort offers a wellness centre and spa, fitness equipment and tennis court. There is an outdoor seasonal swimming pool available.

Complimentary breakfast is served on the hotel's patio or in the Sala Leonardo each day. The fresco painted Michelangelo restaurant with its Carrara marble serves fine Italian food and wine. Le Relais a la Piscine opens for buffet lunches beside the pool. Liberty Bar features live piano music until midnight.

There are six conference rooms and an exhibit room, offering video conferencing, hostess and interpreting services. Wireless Internet access is available in public areas for a surcharge.

Grand Hotel and La Pace offers ayurveda, hydro and manual massages, poultices with thermal mud, and wine or chocolate mousse regenerating facial masks. There is a gym and guests can book a trainer to assist them. Guests receive a 60 per cent green fee discount at the 18 hole Montecatini golf course.

Guestrooms. There are 132 air conditioned guestrooms with a view of the garden, the internal yard or the town. Guestrooms feature an Art Deco style with antique style furnishings. Amenities include satellite television, minibars and safes.

Expert Tip. Visit the town of Lucca, 22 kilometres from the hotel. Piazza Anfiteatro, the city's main square, is built on an ancient Roman amphitheatre. Or visit Casa di Puccini, the house where Giacomo Puccini was born in 1858. Now a museum, it houses portraits, scores and sketches about his life and career.

From Florence Vespucci Airport (FLR):
Distance to Grand Hotel and La Pace is 39 kilometres, approximately 32 minutes' drive.

Getting there. An airport bus departs for Florence's Santa Maria Novella Station every 30 minutes. Single tickets cost 6 EUR. Taxis into Florence city centre cost approximately 15 EUR 16 EUR, and the journey time is 15 minutes. Taxis to Grand Hotel and La Pace cost approximately 100 EUR. Prices are all subject to change.

Getting around. Montecatini Terme is compact and easily explored by foot. Trains connect the city with the rest of Italy, including Florence and Pisa, which can be reached in an hour and a half by train. Tickets cost approximately 3.30 EUR each way. The city has an extensive bus network operating within the centre. A car is useful for getting to the harder to reach villages of the Tuscan region.

Driving directions. From the Florence International Airport.
Take Highway A11 in the direction of Pisa/Lucca.
After 39 kilometres, at the Montecatini Terme exit, head towards the centre of the city (straight ahead).
Before Piazza del Popolo turn right on Via San Martino.
